A Thought on My BIRTHDAY
Out of your teens and on the threshold of adulthood?
Wow, that's a great feeling! You can feel the transition within you. You feel like a butterfly coming out of a cocoon. A new life awaits you.
Very early, I knew that the only object in life was to grow.
Sooner or later we all discover that the important moments in life are not the advertised ones, not the birthdays, the graduations, the weddings, not the great goals achieved. The real milestones are less prepossessing. They come to the door of memory unannounced, stray dogs that amble in, sniff around a bit and simply never leave. Our lives are measured by these.
All my life, I always wanted to be somebody. Now I see that I should have been more specific.
If I were to wish for anything, I should not wish for wealth and power, but for the passionate sense of the potential, for the eye, which ever young and ardent, sees the possible. Pleasure disappoints, possibility never.
The more candles, the bigger the wish.
I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see.
